Naturally slow fermented & unpasteurised, naturally delicious, Pyewackets Traditional takes us back to a time when everything was made by hand, a time when we used every bit of our fruit and vegetables, and we only cooked with what was in season. A time reminiscent of no waste, seasonal dependence, preservation and storage for long winters when food was scarce.
Introducing our delicious plant-based drinks, tonics and tinctures – good for your gut & tasty as get out! We will showcase our talented artisans Genna and Katrina in our blogs – two amazing women with incredible knowledge of nutrition, commitment to sustainability, working with what is in season, in abundance and would otherwise go to waste. Collaboration with local farmers means the freshest local produce is used in producing their shrubs – Arabic word “sharab” meaning “drink”. Sweet, earthy and full of tang, shrubs are an excellent source of vitamins, probiotics, support your digestion and are naturally low in sugar. They were imported to England in the 1600’s, adapted to medicinal tonics in apothecaries. Colonial America took it upon themselves to add Shrubs in cocktails and added them to sodas as non-alcoholic drinks in bars during prohibition.
Fortunately for us today, there is no prohibition (yay!) but an abundance of different flavours of Shrubs to add to your gin, vodka (any alcohol actually) to make yummy cocktails or simply refreshing with sparkling water (or champagne!)
